This painting is inspired by the many years that I’ve spent in the mountains all across the United States. It is a tribute to countless sunsets that can’t really be captured in photos.
I’ve compiled memories of my favorite moments where the mountains become layers of blue while the setting sun creates a bright, colorful expression in the above sky.
All of this is a fleeting moment but powerful. It has propelled me to to keep coming back to the mountains for a chance to catch something remotely similar, even if just for those few magical minutes.
While painting, I aimed to bring focus to the 3 main layers of my composition: the trees in the foreground, the mountain layers in the middle-ground and the sky in the background. Often times, one of these parts of the vista can easily steal all our attention. But during that short time so much magic can happen. I worked to show as much of that as possible.
The effect of this painting is not easy to capture in photos. If you'd like to see a video of it while considering a purchase, please email kpolkowska@gmail.com The details and the gloss varnish is much more apparent in a moving image.
