Dawn at an Aster Meadow, acrylic paint and markers on board, 16"x20", 2022

This new painting is inspired by early mountain mornings when the landscape still seems to be veiled in a soft blue color but sections slowly begin to saturate with highlights of different hues. The wildflowers are beginning to stand out first as they are closest to the viewer on an early mountain meadow stroll in the Summer. The purply pink asters are engaged in a sweet dance with the wispy pink clouds in the fresh morning sky.

July got up to 300% of rain in our region here in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Considering the regular monsoon weather we usually get this time of year, it’s been more chilly and rainy than last year. I’m anticipating an early fall which has apparently already arrived in my studio I created three paintings while feeling like Autumn has arrived but also thinking of a warmer color palette.

As I mentioned in my last post, July here in Pagosa Springs, Colorado has been a pretty wet month which also brought a bit of an afternoon chill with each dose of moisture. This naturally made me think of fall as it almost seemed like it was in the air. This is one of my three new paintings expressing my love and awe of the upcoming, colorful, vibrant display in the mountains.
This painting is inspired by Autumn in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado where I live. When the fall weather conditions are just right – warm sunny days and cool nights – the trees turn the brightest yellows and oranges. I love all stages and displays that fall gives us but it does feel extra magical when all the trees are fully turned and peak all at once during these favorable conditions. It is especially incredible to witness this driving into a special place for a camping/hiking trip, hoping to catch some of the wonderful color display that Autumn prepares for us but you arrive at peak season and all the trees are in unison dressed in golden oranges, that’s hitting the jackpot!

This is painting inspired by Autumn in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado where I live. When the fall weather conditions are just right – warm sunny days and cool nights – the trees turn the brightest yellows and oranges. From my experience right around the Equinox, many trees reach peak color at higher elevations and blanket the foothills below the high peaks in the warmest hues.
Autumn Enchantment II, acrylic on board, 9"x12", 2022
This painting is part of a series of four paintings, all inspired by the enchanted atmosphere that the rising and setting sun creates in Colorado’s mountains during the Autumn season. Below you can see two from this fun series. Check out the other posts from August to see photos of all 4 of these.
Milkyway Above the Aspens II, acrylic on board, 8"x10", 2022
This painting is inspired by magical Colorado nights above the spectacular Autumnal landscape in the Rocky mountains with the Aspen groves at peak color in late September.

This painting is inspired by stormy afternoons in the San Juan Mountains during peak fall foliage. Autumn is my favorite time of the year and I love to travel around Colorado to spend time in my favorite leaf peeping spots =) When the heavy clouds set in, cover the bright sun and create a moody environment in the warmly colored landscape, well that’s magic for me and that is what I tried to capture in both my ‘Looming Autumn Storm’ paintings.
I painted these two as separate compositions yet they almost meet up perfectly when placed next to one another. I sketched them out at the same time so maybe on a subconscious level, my brain connected them. If you look closely though, specifically at the trees in the foreground, you will see that both paintings have a different patter that does not actually flow or connect but at first glance you may be tricked =)
Above you can see the very early stages of color layering before any of the detailed outlines were added.Autumn Crescent Moon, acrylic on board, 23″x47″ (25″x49″ framed), 2022

I'm so happy to see this new painting beautifully, custom framed by my partner Kyle - hugs thanks to him fr helping my work have such a clean, professional look!
This painting makes me think of all the different aspects of fall that I love here in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado where I live. The vast, expansive views with varied shrubbery and trees that roll into awe inspiring high peaks all veiled in warm, moody colors is one of the most visually stimulating scenes for me as an artist. Autumn is so fleeting and so full of mixed feelings, the beauty of the season helps me to cope with the end of Summer and the quickly approaching, cooler and less colorful Winter. I am still savoring the magical Summer season but this year it just really feels like its slipping away faster than ever. But fall is on the way and this type of scenery is food for my soul. The overwhelming beauty of the season here in Colorado is what I aimed to capture here.
Autumn Emerges, acrylic on board, 24″x24″ framed , 2022

This is painting inspired by Autumn in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado where I live. When the fall weather conditions are just right – warm sunny days and cool nights – the trees turn the brightest yellows and oranges. I love watching the, slow initial change of Color. Usually as early as the beginning of August, I will spot an occasion yellow spot on a random tree here and there. But all of a sudden, as September nears the end, finally a brightly colored landscape emerges in the high country and vails the peaks in almost fluorescent hues. This scene is the epiphany of the Autumn color explosion especially if the sunset rivals the show that the trees put on for a brief moment.
