One of my latest steel sculptures has been juried into the Art On the Streets Public Program in Colorado Springs. This is a great honor as the pool of applicants spans across the world and only a couple of handfuls of artist are invited each year. Additionally this year, my sculpture Bloom II was awarded the 2nd Place Jurors Award. Thank You Colorado Springs for choosing my art for the third time as I've participated in the program two other years. Scroll all the way down to see my previous entries.

Naturally, it was a family affair and effort to do the installation. The four of us made a trip out of it, driving up all the way from Pagosa Springs. We installed not just my sculpture but Kyle's 'Casey the Terrific Tire Caterpillar" and we got to visit one of our favorite spots to walk around incredible rocks and landscaped, the one and only Garden of the Gods, always inspirational and awe inspiring. Thank You to the Downtown Partnership for providing us 2 nights of very comfortable lodging during our stay. We had a lot of fun enjoying the sights and views around the city! Below are a few installation photos of our two little assistants, always with a cookie in hand!

I was asked if I'd like to be included in a news interview and ofcourse I said YES despite being a pretty awkward person on camera lol I just thought what a great way to further share the art that is meant for public enjoyment. It was such a neat surprise to find out this was more than a 5 second hello and introduction of my sculpture among many others. This is an amazing short feature on the Art on the Streets Program giving some insight into the creative efforts of the 4 of us, Kyle, Me, Ethan and Wesley participating in this years 2023/24 exhibit. Thank You KOAA for the fantastic video!

Below is a variety of views and angles of Bloom II. The central location along the median allows for great viewing options, no matter what direction you are looking from.

Lastly, look down for the the two sculptures I've collaborated on with Kyle in previous years - Chipeta Mai and Artemis, both sculpted by Kyle and adorned in a glass and ceramic mosaic handmade by me. They were both on display in Colorado Springs in the past. The doll won a Juror's Award as well - that was an added honor.

And ofcourse here is a shot of Kyle's latest sculpture 'Casey the Teriffic Tire Caterpillar' during this year's installation.

The Passage - A Mosaic Door Sculpture Inspired by Polish Folkart

In early September, I completed my newest mosaic sculpture "The Passage". It is a 7ft tall hand-sculpted door covered in a handmade stained glass mosaic I created with accents of handmade ceramic tiles I also created in the studio. The flower motifs are inspired by the Polish Folk Art 'Wycinanki'. Below you can see my initial concept for the project. The color palette changed but most of the project stayed true to my vision.

My sculpture, "The Passage" is rooted in the intricate folk art of paper cutting from Poland, my place of birth. This is a theme I began exploring last year, looking back at traditional imagery from childhood on another continent and being completely captivated by it as an adult living in the United States for the past 30 years.

I wanted to share the wonder that these patterns inspire in me, hoping that the sculpture can transport folks to a different, new world as they stroll through town. The bright colors and fun, bulbous shapes are made to be eye catching, grabbing the viewer and pulling them in for a moment, adding something unique to their day.

Below is a glimpse into me creating the 10 stained glass mosaic inserts that went on both sides of the sculpture.

Next, you get a peek into the gluing of the inserts - as you can see I had two very helpful and eager assistants - they were not as calm in reality as they appear in the photos.

All glued, well the main glass sections at least. Next I began to play with the ceramic tiles and trying to figure out a fun way to integrate these with the rest of the design while also adding more hand cut glass mosaic patterns.

Grouting was extremely tedious and had to be done in many stops.

Durango Autumn Art Festival

On September 16th and the 17th, I participated in the Juried 2 Day Autumn Art Festival in Durango, the cultural center of Southwestern Colorado. I was thrilled to have been accepted into my first event of this kind, a prestigeous and beautifully organized even only 1 hour away from where I live in Pagosa Springs.

I had an amazing couple of days of sharing and selling my work, meeting other artists and then I got the biggest surprise when on top off all the fun and good fortune I had here, I was awarded the 1st place award. What a good omen to receive recognition during my first 2 day art festival. I worked really hard to put together a professional looking booth and to fill it with a good variety of my Colorado mountain inspired artwork. I'll be applying for sure to come back in 2024!
